2012 might be the best year for music. As Beach House enters the studio, The Walkmen are out of the studio. This is perfect considering the fact that I’m still swooning over Lisbon. I have high hopes for this 6th album. Make me proud, Hamilton.

franz ferdinand is coming out with a 12 inch of their covers

i wish bands did more live covers

Me: yes. more live covers but less cross-covers. if you are going to cover a song and record it, make it something atleast 5+ years old

unless its one of those cover swaps. which i find stupid, but i understand

Duckman: they might think that song is the absolute shit

so they wanted to cover it

so be it

whatever

if its entertaining, its entertaining

Something is wrong with my iTunes

Something is really wrong with my iTunes. There is no way I listened to Angela Surf City 436 times in 3 months. No effin way. And Die Antwoord’s evil boy? Yeah, I know I’ve admitted listening to it 30 times in one day But there is no way I’ve listened to it over 100 times in three weeks. That’s disgusting. Anyone know how to fix this bug so that iTunes doesn’t lie to all my friends who creep on my computer. I don’t want to hear “Bro, you like The Walkmen a little too much” every other day.

Ill admit to listening to Electrelane 74 times. That shit is the bomb. Get on it.

I have a history with each one of these bands. Weezer – Blue Album got me through high school classes (for all the kids out there who dont have long hair: Put your headphones through your sleeve so that the air buds are in your hand. Then hold up your head on your desk in boredom and just plug that ear bud in. No one will know unless youre a dick and listen too loudly)

The Walkmen – Bows + Arrows has been my break up album every year since 2005. Hey, as an artist I feed off emotion and nothing says an emotion kick in the balls like a good ole fashion heart brokerage.

Interpol -Turn on the bright lights was my first ever ‘discovery.’ I knew of interpol before anyone else. Now Im throwing out band names like Moga and Roz and the Rice Cakes. I made my own ghetto interpol t-shirt. Had my own interpol Kippah. I was the indie dawg shit my friends.

So how do these albums fare in the triple death, hell in a cell, submission only match?

Weezer: You know we hate weezer right now for their Hurley sellout bullshit. Its really tough to look past that, but fuck those assholes. You know whats more tough? Actually starting to like the album. Thats right. I kind of like Hurley. Weezer has gone back to having Rivers sing. Like, this album would have been liked by people if it came out after the Green Album. So. Im surprised. Although some songs like “where’s my sex?” remind me that Weezer sold out.

Interpol: Awful album after awful album. Each one getting progressively worse. So what do I expect from Interpol this time around? When you have the lowest of expectations for a band you expect crap. And crap is what they served. i feel like interpol is starting to rip off their old songs. For example Baracade sounds like it wants to be Antics. At least this album isnt as crappy as the last album, right?

The Walkmen: This band has produced some great, yet depressing albums in its time. Lisbon takes a different route. Instead of listening to songs about bitches breaking hearts and telling your gal to back the fuck off they have gone down a happier path. Perfect for the late summer. Lisbon is a much more basic and simple album yet songs are still powerful.

So which of these bands has the better album coming out this month? Easy…

xponential music fest 2010

A few weekends ago I went to my second xponential show in Camden, NJ. This show is sponsored by WXPN which is a public radio station. For those people who do not live in the Philadelphia area, XPN is the radio station old people listen to to be more ‘hip’ in their attempt to understand the alt world. Last year the set up was pretty good. All the music the old people liked was in the beginning of the day while the shit I enjoy more was closer to sunset. This year was not the case leaving room for some funny shit.

Old yuppies hate beach balls. These people spent 80% of the time hunting down beach balls instead of paying attention to Yo La Tengo. 80% is also the amount of area that was used for lawn seats. So instead of sitting, these Nazi yuppies took down all balloons and shouted “Der Inflatable Fuhrer” after popping each one.

Old yuppies also suck as a crowd. They all think they are having fun, but they are not. The Walkmen came on stage and everyone walked away. If you go to XPN’s website and listen to their audio, you can hear a guy screaming and yelling at the crowd. He was annoying. And right. They suck. When Yo La Tengo came on and started rubbing mallets on their guitars, you could feel the yuppies cringe. It was so amazingly funny how much they hated it. But they forgot all about it once the Sun Ra came out.

Band members didn’t really mind walking around the yuppies. I ended up smoking a cigarette next to Dawes and just watched as the old ppl congratulated them on a ‘good show’. While packs of tween yuppie wannabees stood 10 feet away giggling and fanning themselves. I turned around and saw a crowd of alt-bros. One of my friends goes “Thats Alex from Ed Sharpe.” They were taking photos of this shirtless dood. felt kind of gay. But w/e. I decided to take a photo of him and me too.

If you need a chillax show where you can hang with your parents, then this is the show for you. There is fun and sun poisoning for the whole family.
