I haven’t cared to watch Pitchfork.tv because it’s Pitchfork. You know, that once-upon-a-time obscure music blog? But it seems like they’re adding Pitchfork.tv to Youtube. If I didn’t know better I’d say it’s like they’re taking Daytrotter, adding it to late 80s MTV, and putting it on the internets (which is the media of the future, tomorrow). But how are their shows much different than anything MTV put on in it’s heyday? And do I want such a large company as Pitchfork deciding what music videos and artist profiles I, a uniquely-minded individual, tune into?

First up, we’re introducing a new show, “Pitchfork Weekly”. Every Friday, we’ll bring you an irreverent look at the happenings from the previous week in music, including interviews with artists, roundtable discussions, and loads more. Our first episode will premiere on Friday, February 17.

How will this be irreverent? Irreverent in a ‘fuck the man’ type way that MTV trumpeted decades ago? Or irreverent in the ‘I’m Bon Iver at the Grammys, and, like, I’m totally ironic and detached’ type way? Does anyone really want to watch a bunch of music jerk-offs blabbing on and on about how Lana Del Ray has failed to reach their ever-heightened expectations of female-indie-pop music?

We’ll also roll out new episodes of our “+1″ series, which mixes artists interviews with in-venue performance footage, as well as a slew of new episodes from “60 Seconds Left”, which gives artists the chance to express themselves creatively, in one minute’s time. Throughout 2012, we’ll launch more than a half-dozen new programs that will continue Pitchfork.tv’s tradition of innovation.  // Pitchfork

Not to be the Debby Downer, but I’m not sure in what way this is revolutionary, I’d almost prefer some collaboration between Dads who love Austin City Limits, and stuffy liberals who pray to the NPR Gods. Pitchfork.tv, I’m going to say it right now. You are the MTV of the 21st century. Congratulations! We wish you success when you roll out your “Becoming a Pitchfork Writer” reality tv series, along with “Hipster, Williamsburg”, or some other Hipster-derivative fueled show.

Oh we’ll watch them. But only with detached ironic bemusement.

Have you taken a look at the zombie Beavis and Butthead, brought back to MTV from the dead after years of sub-par programming? It looks good. Really good. Feels like the old cartoon, too. It doesn’t look good enough for me to watch on MTV (I’m not sure I even get that channel?), but definitely good enough to download illegally. Holler! Another show to add to my already lengthy list of shows to watch.

New video by the Foo Fighters. I’m not a big fan myself. But my friend is, and he was ecstatic about how they were recording this new album in analog. Not the super low-fi vibe that every indie band experiments with (secretly or openly). The 90s feel. The one that people my age (early 20s) miss so much. It’s the reason I own a Power Rangers book. And the reason I was so confused when Weezer pulled a similar stunt last week, ditching their pop-fame notoriety for a catchy ballad. Not just because it’s fuckin’ sweet. But because we all miss our childhoods, before we understood that frats exist, that Dave Matthews blows, and that love can be oh-so-confusing. On top of that, their producer was the same one for Nirvana’s Nevermind. To sweeten the pot, Lemy from Motorhead is on the album. Just sayin’.

Welcome back MTV circa 1991. Even if some of us were barely alive, we will pretend to remember you fondly so that we look hip and beyond our years. I really hope 90s fashion doesn’t become hip in general hipster circles. I hate bright colors.

(On a side note, I really hope that Beavis and Butthead make fun of this song when they return. That’d be pretty neat.)

Here’s the latest video from Ok Go. Blah blah blah bleh.

Are you as tired of Ok Go as I am? I was all excited when they returned after a 5 year hiatus. But when they returned I couldn’t remember why I liked them so much. They suck. They always did. But I was 15 once upon a time and thought they were awesome. Being 15 causes a lot of stupid shit to appear awesome.

So here is another video of them trying to be viral and cool. But the song is boring as shit. At best their music is a poppy piece of poop (+5 alliteration). The video is kinda interesting. If it was in MoMA, or about dinosaurs fighting eachother and eating guts, I’d be like OMG vidz is amazing! But it’s about wind or leaves or autumn or girls or something equally as ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

Music videos are dead. Deader than a hipster. Just as MTV and FUSE and BET and whoever else still pretends to hold the flag of cable music television squeak out a miserable existence. (CMT doesn’t exist as far as I’m concerned). But that’s why they all went to reality teevee, because that shit is much more interesting

I’ve thrown up weekend PBR and Jim Beam binges that rival this ‘viral’ ‘video.

So the real question is, will you care?

We are all going to get nostalgic over this show coming out but lets be real. Most of us are going to forget that Beavis and Butthead are back on. The others will watch the first two episodes then go back to Mad Men / reruns of Law and Order. We are no longer a reflection of these characters. In 1996 everyone was stupid and just trying to get laid. Most of Beavis’ and Butthead’s problems can now be solved by internet porn. New episodes = bad choice. You can’t revive every cartoon. And shit, i haven’t even watched a new episode of Futurama. So Im going to give the concept of bringing Beavis and Butthead bad two thumbs down.
