Swastikas in New Jersey: Who do you blame?

It seems to me that every 6 months another small Jewish neighborhood in New Jersey is hit by anti-semitic / self hating graffiti. Each case seems to get more and more redundant. We get it. Swastikas. But the question is, who do we blame? We have to blame someone, or something. So whose fault is it?

Let’s first look at this specific case. On September 6th in Manalapan, NJ, residents found various swastikas painted on their mailboxes and white picketed fences. This all happening just 10 days before Rosh Hashana – the Jewish new year. It also happened just two days after the local Federation held a security preparedness training so people would feel safe on the high holidays.

So for all the grassy knoll enthusiasts out there, here is a breakdown of who you should blame and why.

The Jewish Federation: This is clearly a hoax by the Federation. We all know that post Bernie Madoff, Jewish organizations have been in huge financial trouble. They need all the help they can get ( ed. note: please buy our shirts). So why not create a security event, and the next day scare the shit out of everyone into giving you more money? Makes perfect sense.

The Jewish citizens of Manalapan: Who are these people? Are they terrible? Did they do something we don’t know about? I’m not saying they were asking for this to happen to them, but maybe they need to share some of the blame. It’s possible that there are some terrible people living here. But this theory still needs to be proved.

Suburbia: Suburbia, man. Is there anything good that stays in that place? Suburbia kills creativity. It kills brain cells. It kills everything. So what’s a kid to do besides spray paint penises on the white picked fences one week and swastikas the next? Would you rather them be experimenting with bath salts? What do you expect in suburbia? It’s the place where everyone knows your name and talks trash behind your back. The last thing anyone needs is Suburbia.
