Rabbi Susan Silverman and her daughter Hallel were arrested at the Western Wall after they refused to remove their prayer shawls. For those of you asking yourself how dumb this sounds, yes, it is very dumb. But welcome to a world where the Ultra Orthodox dictate what you can and can not do. Some of those things that are not allowed include women praying out loud and women wearing a prayer shawl. This apparently bothers religious men and women because Jews can’t mind their own business. I mean did you hear about Rabbi Susan Silverman getting arrested at the Kotel? What would her father say? (I’m actually positive he’s one of proudest parents in the world right now, but I’m trying to illustrate an old Jewish stereotype so please go along with it.)
SO proud of my amazing sister @rabbisusan & niece @purplelettuce95 for their ballsout civil disobedience. Ur the tits!#womenofthewall

The Silverman family is an activist family. I can only hope that one day Chicky gets arrested for public nudity, and I get banned from a Walmart for tripping fat people. Activism at its finest!

If your a Jew…respect the Orthodox customs in the Holy Land. If you cannot espect the Orthodox customs you may not be a real Jew and perhaps YOU should stay away. I can’t just go make up you own new religious rules!

Mark, you do know the Hassids have done absolutely jackshit to establish or protect said Holy Land right? Also screw you for taking a nice frum dump on the religious rights of others.

Mark, one of the main tenets of Judaism is treating your neighbor as you yourself would like to be treated. We are supposed to act towards others with kindness and respect and give people the benefit of the doubt. There is a saying that there are three types of mitzvot, positive commandments–those that are between man and G-d, those that are between a man and other people, and those that are between a man and himself. G-d forgives easily, and we have a whole day of asking Him for forgiveness. People do not forgive as easily, which is why we should be so careful to treat everyone, Jew or gentile, with respect. We certainly should not be tearing people away from prayer, away from serving G-d in a way that resonates with them. That sort of behavior risks pushing them farther away from the Orthodox customs that you name in your post.
Chicky, Duckman, a shoutout from the old PHDS/CBS crew! Thanks for posting this article.

Jacob,
I have watched many documentaries and have studied the issues for about 15 years. The issues can be complicated and I do not consider myself an expert by any means. Long before Zionist occupations began, Haredi Jews and Muslims got along well enough that they would babysit each others children. They do not feel Zionist are real Jews and any Holy Land given to them will be given to them by their Messiah. That is their perspective. The Zionists also appears to be divided between conservative and liberals. That is interesting also. I am not certain about the Hassidic role in Israel. Perhaps, the Hassidics are the conservative side of the Zionist movement? Consider this short 5 part documentary. It gives insight we do not get by the American media:

Thanks for the video, Jacob! Really fascinating to watch! I really wish more of the hipster a**holes here were half as willing to educate themselves or have a real humanitarian conviction. Sarah Silverman is an ignoramus. She thinks that is civil disobedience? How about actuallt standing up to the IDF thugs in defense of some poor Palestinians getting hassled, beaten or worse. Bet she wouldn’t have much to say on that. But her sister’s right to wear a f***in’ scarf, oh that’s ballsout. Shut up!
