Jews have always been a self-loathing people. But Csanad Szegedi of Hungary took this a bit too far. A former leader of Hungary’s Anti-Semitic Jobbik Party, Szegedi had been denouncing the Jewish people for years, accusing us of political infiltration and campaigning with overtly anti-Semitic materials.
In 2010, a prisoner approached Szegedi with evidence of his Jewish roots. After attempts to bribe the prisoner, the political leader announced that his mother was Jewish. Which makes him a Jew. And more of one than me! (My Dad’s a Jew, not my Mom)
Apparently, his grandmother even survived Auschwitz and his grandfather was imprisoned in a labor camp. Talk about ungrateful offspring!
Well now Szegedi is making a trip to Auschwitz, apologizing to Jews, and stepping down from all party positions. Let’s wish him a hearty Mazel Tov on his newfound Jewish roots! Welcome to the tribe!
