How (Not) to Compare the President to Hitler (courtesy of Hank Williams, Jr.)

Whoo, baby, celebrities! They’re just a ball of fun, aren’t they? Remember that awful show Bill Cosby had, “Kids Say The Darndest Things?” They should have one of those with celebrities in place of the kindergarteners. They could call it “Mel Gibson Says the Darndest Things.”

Only, they would have to do a special episode for Hank Williams, Jr. who managed to really stick it to Obama this week, when talking about the Republican candidates for President, by comparing the President to Hitler.

Now, there are a lot of wonderful things about this level of disharmony going on in this video. First, Brian Kilmeade has the good sense to attempt to disarm how Hank seems a little pissy by pointing out how Hank seems a little pissy. Hank follows this up by hitting on Gretchen Carlson in what is perhaps the creepiest attempt at flattery via satellite television since Wolf Blitzer hit on the hologram technology during CNN’s 2008 election coverage.

So, obviously, everything’s going pretty smooth when Hank ducks a question about the Republican field to back up the clock to three months ago to talk about the Obama-Boehner golf summit.

Now, like Hank, I agree that I was pretty much “turned-off” by the whole concept of some of the country’s most powerful men pausing to play golf while the country’s economic future teetered on the edge of the abyss. However, we seem to have come to this feeling from two wildly opposite ends. I felt that it was a waste of time, whereas Hank Williams, Jr. felt as though it were akin to shaking hands with the devil, or (using an metaphor more closely grounded in reality) “like Hitler playing golf with Netanyahu.”

And here’s where, for once, I’m obligated to give props to a FOX News personality. Specifically Steve Doocy. For while Gretchen’s smile freezes on her face and Brian stares into the camera like a particularly bland statue, Steve Doocy’s smile dies on his face at the word “Hitler” and then turns into a “what the fuck–?” expression by the end of the Israeli Prime Minister’s last name.

Unlike Brian, Steve gets the analogy. And he knows it’s full of shit. Which is why when Hank goes on to call Obama and VP Joe Biden “the Three Stooges” he points out that that’s only two.

Luckily, Brian’s able to defuse the whole situation by pointing out that it’s been 20 years that Hank has been asking America “Are you ready for some football?” whenever they turn their television sets to Monday Night Football. Then the topic changes over to that.

Ironic, now, considering that as a result of Williams’ analogy, ESPN dropped him from the MNF opening that night.

Hey, how about that? A TV network devoted to people performing physically challenging tasks for others’ amusement has more sense than a guy who can read and write music and works with words for a living. How about that?

I deserve to be somewhere where they celebrate Christmas and have fewer arguments over who should cover what on the bill! Someone please contact the police and/or my family! Also, read my posts, because page views are directly tied to how many times I'm allowed to use the bathroom.
