Twitter is a very confusing and scary place. I’m still trying to learn things like ‘trending’ and ‘being witty in 144 characters’. Shit is not easy. Just take a look for yourself at my twitter, Chickywink.
The NYTimes has finally caught onto this social ruse, even naming 2011 ‘The Year of the Hashtag’, because every year needs to be solely defined by some mundane trend. Particularly a trend that has been existing for atleast 3 years.
Using a hashtag is also a way for someone to convey that they’re part of a certain scene. “You kind of have to be in-the-know,” Mr. Messina said. “So it’s one of those jokes where you’re like, ‘Oh, I see what you did there, because you’re on Twitter and I’m on Twitter.’ ” (NYTimes)
ANNNNNDDDD who the hell reads the NYTimes anymore? Old people. Old people and idiots.

That was a fun trend.
