This Memorial Day weekend I took a trip to Jew York City. It was a fun time. I saw some Hasids, ate at a real deli, drank some PBR’s, and saw lots of hipsters. Except hipsterism is getting dangerously mainstream. How do I know? Because while I was there I never set one foot into Williamsburg, yet every minute or so I could spot one. In fact, I was on 7th Avenue very close to Times Square. (hint: that’s the tourist area) What? This isn’t making any sense.
Were they posing as tourists to make fun of other tourists? Could they get certain items only on 44th Street? Were they buying street vendor portraits of Justin Bieber “ironically?”
All of these questions are moot, however, compared to my next point: I was rudely reminded why I go to New York for vacation and not to live. The place smells like piss. And that’s before they pile the trash on the street at 9pm.

My overall impression of this weekend’s NYC visit.

I hope this isn’t hipsterdom’s death knell.
