YJs @ SXSW 2011 – Yiddish Cowboys

Yeah, that’s right. Every good concert needs a klezmer band. Because you can’t be truly Jewish without klezmer music. So today I present to you: Yiddish Cowboys.

Now before I present you with some of their music, I need to hate on Jewish cowboys. Why? Because there never were any. I don’t care what The Simpsons may have told you, about them needing to be good shots and all. Even before The Frisco Kid, when young Jewish boys wanted to assimilate into American culture, they understood that cowboys were where it was at. So they started loving cowboys. And then they made up rumors about Jewish cowboys so they could feel good about themselves. Sadly, this is bullshit.

Everyone knows if you are clean shaven you are gay, and if you have a beard you are a louse. So I dunno if I can trust this band with only 1 mustache.

The Yiddish Cowboys hail from Texas. I bet you guessed that already. They play fairly standard klezmer fare, and they mix in a bit of mexicano/cowboy music. Here is a video from their website of them playing at a Kosher supermarket in Austin. Literally everyone and their mamma is at SXSW right now.
