Weinland is an Americana / freak folk band hailing from Portland, Oregon. Yeah, that’s right. Portland is officially the Jewish hipster capital of the West Coast. Now I better see some good west coast/east coast rivalries popping up in the indie scene in the next couple of years. Williamsburg vs Portland. Until then, I’ll just continue to blog.
Weinland is made up of 5 people. Most importantly the lead guitarist/vocalist/song writer Josh Adam Weinland Shearer, and Aaron “Rantz” Pomerantz who plays lots of instruments. So the myspace says. And they have opened for west coast folk legend The Decemberists. I’d say their shot at indie mainstream accessibility is looking pretty good right now.
everyone loves a Jew with a beard
When I first saw this video, the first thing it reminded me of was Crosby Stills Nash and Young. Especially the near-whiney vocals of Adam Shearer which is quite reminiscent of Neil Young. But unlike Young, whose voice eventually made me go mad with rage, Shearer doesn’t try to over extend his rage into vocal oblivion. For that, I thank him.
