Their myspace bio explains themselves pretty well for me.
They wandered their 40 years, collectively at least, through bands and projects that dried up to desert. Milk and honey, stale beer and cigarettes, it didn’t matter – they found their Jerusalem when they found each other. My Jerusalem met through critically acclaimed singer-songwriter Jeff Klein, who played with each of them in his travels as a solo artist.
As far as I know Klein is the only one member is Jewish. And I don’t even know if he is Jewish. I’m just assuming if your name is Jeffrey Lawrence Klein, you are a Jew. Correct me if that is faulty logic.
I’ve never been a big fan of singer/songwriters, so I’m happy Jeff has taken to a larger, more ‘rock’ band. Regardless, Klein is backed up with the musical genius of Rick Nelson. Mr. Nelson plays violins, viola, cello and keyboards in the band, and has been a longtime member of both Polyphonic Spree and St. Vincent. The influence is palpable.
Although this song is one of their few upbeat ones, it is pretty fucking good. And their social commentary about youtube videos of cute girls dancing for their 15 minutes of slutty fame is comment worthy. I hope they keep more of these songs coming. If so, I may try to make Jerusalem my own. (I don’t care if that joke sucked I made it so live with it.)
