Hoodie Allen – Dreams Up

I love Hoodie Allen’s new song Dreams Up. And if you don’t want to read me ranting about the culture of music, then just download it here and have a powerful day. Otherwise…

I truly enjoy this new song from Hoodie. As he describes it’s “an up-beat track, all about bringing a new attitude into the new year.” And I couldn’t agree more. And I couldn’t have used this song more than now. As for most people, shits getting rough in 2k11 with school starting or unemployment bearing down. Just trying to get out, get up, get through whatever we need to. We dream. Dream a little. Dream big. Dream fast. Dream about sampling Danish Pop stars Oh Land. Kind of a big ambiguous statement, but that’s what works for the masses. Just hoping that 2k11 will be better than the shitty 2k10 we had to endure.

Go over and facebook like Hoodie Allen, or follow him on twitter. The guy is only going to get bigger. And you’re only going to hear about him more and more. So you might as well start liking him now, so you can ironically dislike him later on when he gets too big. If Dreams Up is only the start to his 2k11 mixtape “Leap Year”, then we are going to see some big things from him sooner than later.

I would totally make a “Leap Year” and “Leaping into stardom” joke right here, but that would only solidify the fact that Jews have to make a joke no matter how bad it is.

Dreams Up by HoodieAllen

There is something about Hoodie that has been bothering me, but I thought it over. I often state my issues with bands are with their fans, rather than the music. The biggest example being Panda Bear. I am glad I saw him when I did, but his popularity has gone to the high school hipster drug scene. I am way too old to be anywhere near that. Thus, I bash the atmosphere created by the band.

Justifiably, I have the right to do so. People suck. I don’t want to be grinded-upon by a 12 year old dood that dropped acid. Same goes for Hoodie’s fan base. I dislike the majority of fans that flock to him. The 8 year olds posting youtube videos of them singing his songs. The bros. The altbros. The fact the Barstool U is paying him to play a show (Love you Portnoy, but I hate your readers). And no, these are not the feelings I’ve had about Hoodie from when I first listened to “Pep Rally” four months ago. I’ve been able to watch him and his fan base grow.

Then again, how can I sit here and take it out on Hoodie? Of course, Hoodie has a choice, play for the masses, or sing to his friends in a respectable environment. But fuck that. The masses want to pay, the masses will listen and love. Hoodie will get more press, get more followers, get more love. It’s for the best. He doesn’t have to change who he is, what he does, to encourage his following. Being cool is what’s in. Being a hipster is whats cool. Being a Hipster Jew is what everyone wants. So milk the shit out of it.
