U.S. Congressman Anthony Weiner (D-NY 9th District), whom we’ve already mentioned as having more chutzpah than a chihuahua at a doberman rally for calling the entire Republican party a “wholly owned subsidiary” of the insurance companies picked up some more news this week, in the wake of his “Yes” vote on the Congressional Healthcare Bill.
As reported by CBS, Rep. Weiner was sent white power along with a threatening letter, likely in response to his outspoken (as the above link and video clip contained within shows) advocacy of healthcare reform and specifically referenced his voting “Yes” on the bill. NYPD Haz-Mat was deployed to the office. The powder has turned out to be harmless.
Weiner doesn’t just get ambiguous powder in the mail, though. No, he also gets anti-Semitic notes, one of which was signed with a swastika, and another that derisively referred to the Congressman as “Schlomo.”
Besides the obvious problems (anti-Semitism, anthrax scares, threats, etc) with this, I want to point the illogic that goes into these attacks. I mean, it’s one thing to threaten somebody, but to put powder into the letter containing the threat is, frankly, blowing your load too soon. You want to save the powder for a future attack. You can’t threaten to hit someone mid-punch, it’s no longer a threat. Also, by failing to actually provide harmful powder, you’ve clearly demonstrated you have no access to any such chemicals, because otherwise you would have sent them.
As for the anti-Semitic notes, really? You signed with a swastika? Who’s he supposed to think wrote it? Hitler? By not at least putting “Concerned Neo-Nazi Citizen” or something like that, you’re taking away the tangible threat. You’re not a real person, you’re just a swastika that’s against healthcare. Also, in the debate so far, anti-healthcare reform folks have usually portrayed supporters of the Healthcare Bill as Nazis. By signing with a swastika, you’re equating yourself with the Nazis. You’ve got to keep it straight, otherwise you’ll undermine Glenn Beck’s position that Obama is the Nazi and confuse people on who they should be calling Nazis.
What the hell? He dressed himself as a Nazi? You know, the more I see of Glenn Beck, the less confident I am that he knows how to read
And finally, the use of “Schlomo” as a derogatory address is just a joke. Jews regularly refer to themselves with harsher anti-Semitic terms than “Schlomo.” Do you even know who Schlomo was? He was King Solomon. Congrats, you ignorant, hateful, ridiculous anti-Semitic bastard. You just called the guy you’re trying to insult the pet name for one of the wisest best kings in the whole freaking Bible. Which is not to say it’s inaccurate, just that it’s probably the opposite of what you intended. I mean, Anthony Weiner is pretty much the King.
