(against) Bar Rafaeli chastised for dating DiCaprio

An Israel organization, Lehava, who’s mission is to ensure that female Jews marry other male Jews, sent this to Bar and her mother. Yes, they also sent it to guilt her mother.

“It is not by chance that you were born Jewish,” wrote Baruch Marzel in a letter he sent Refaeli through her mother (and that promptly appeared in the press). “Your grandmother and her grandmother did not dream that one of their descendants would one day remove the family’s future generations from the Jewish people. Assimilation has forever been one of the enemies of the Jewish people.”

This isn’t personal, wrote Marzel, who was careful to open his letter stressing that he “has nothing against Mr. DiCaprio, who I have no doubt is a talented actor.” Still, he implores Refaeli: “Come to your senses, look forward and back too — and not only the present. Don’t marry Leonardo DiCaprio, don’t harm the future generations.”

Why does this organization have JMS (Jewish Mother Syndrome)? Is Bar about to marry Leo? Unless they have information I don’t know (and I scour the internet daily for Bar Rafaeli news), I’m going to have to make the judgment that they are overreacting. Dating is dating, not marrying. It’s not even like Leonardo can get married. Leo is not a marriage type of guy. He’s way too good for that, and way too good looking to box himself in with just one woman. Even if it is with Israel’s sexiest supermodel.

I mean, I understand Lehava is worried about assimilation. That is a legitimate concern. And you could argue that she could date any attractive Jewish actor out there (my longshot bet is on Adrian Brody), and doesn’t need the most attractive man of the decade, DiCaprio. But to claim that her children wont be Jewish? Of course they will be. Judaism follows through the mother’s bloodline (it used to be the easiest way to ensure that the child would have some Jewish blood).

I think the second paragraph is the true shining moment of this letter.
“…nothing against Mr. DiCaprio, who I have no doubt is a talented actor.” What a cop-out. To say that they have ‘no doubt’, means that other people do have doubt. Obviously they didn’t see Shutter Island, or their ‘no doubt’ would be nonexistent. Their psychological insults wont get by me.

It must be rough being Bar. Guilted by her mother, grandmother, aunt, uncles, distant ancient and decrepit relatives, and even some goody-two-shoes Israel organization.

Man, those babies will be too attractive. So attractive that maybe they shouldn’t get married(?)…
